An upset Fandi impacted his flopping LionsXII side as he reprimanded them for essentially "enjoying" being in the spotlight after a miserable crush in the Malaysia Super League.
LionsXII's surprise 1-0 home misfortune to Sime Darby in the Malaysia Super League on Saturday night did not sit well with coach Fandi Ahmad as he showed his disappointment to his team who wasn’t able to beat a team they just defeated in a previous week.
As the frustrated coach speaks to reporters, he said, “They should take a look in the mirror.”
“They are just enjoying being part of the LionsXII, that’s the way I see it because they have got no guts today! They are just going through the motion, which is very bad for me I think!”
Fandi did not drop the player’s name that he felt who had neglected to perform, yet he included that it was puzzling they had not taken the chance to be part of the national team.
"Some of them really take things for granted which is a real disappointment for me because at this level this is a chance for them to go to the national team and if this is what we have from today then this is going to be very bad for football," Fandi said.
"If I can play I will play, seriously!"
With the LionsXII indicating trouble discovering the net forthright, Fandi declined to recognize that the issue was down to not having a fit striker.
Rather, he brought up that hours of preparing to get the basics right enhanced the player’s skills a little bit.
Fandi continued saying, “After they (Sime Darby) got one goal they sat back going for counters and we pushed more men forward but nothing [came out of it], because technically the finishing was very poor.”
"I get fed up! Even with all the trainings, the first touch today was too poor today. We could have easily got three or four goals in the first-half today."
Fandi, notwithstanding, was not prepared to surrender his pursuit for the title even with unmistakably more troublesome fixtures heading up; beginning with Pahang's visit on Tuesday night as he asked his players to regroup.
Nevertheless, the form of the LionsXII players is giving the previous Singapore international reason for concern as Fandi communicated his consternation at not knowing whether his players were going to be dependable for their assigned tasks in the following game.
Fandi continues, "We had four or five players who didn’t turn up today.
That was the biggest disappointment and we don’t know who is our first 11. We don’t know who is gonna turn up, so very sad. Very inconsistent."
The defeat left LionsXII sitting on the sixth spot on the table, six points behind Selangor.
